Phentermine

Phentermine is a prescription drug used to treat obesity. It works by suppressing appetite and making the process of losing weight easier on the patient. Your doctor should know your full medical history before prescribing this drug – just to make sure the treatment goes as planned and will not be affected by any of your health conditions in any way. Some of your health conditions can actually get worse if you begin taking phentermine without previously discussing it with your health care provider. Tell your doctor if you have or used to have any of the following: high blood pressure, heart disease, narrowing of the arteries, glaucoma, history of alcohol or drug abuse, or an overactive thyroid gland.

If you have taken a MAO inhibitor, such as phenelzine, selegiline, rasagiline or isocarboxazid within the past two weeks, make sure your health care provider is aware of that fact. At least two weeks are supposed to pass after the last dosage of a MAO inhibitor before you can safely take this medicine. If you do not know whether the drug you are currently taking is a MAO inhibitor you can read the medication guide for more information or consult your pharmacist.
